The Flower Fields

When I was in 5th grade, my mom took me to a beautiful place: The Flower Fields. 50 acres of stunning Ranunculus, one of my favorite flowers, cover the Carlsbad farm in California, creating a stunning view of color. I recently ran into a picture of Ranunculus, and made me want to go again. It's just gorgeous--take a look yourself!

The Piss Boy

I am often surprised about all the random little things that people know--or don't know. I introduced an icon to my husband's family this week, which was actually a little embarrassing. I guess I just took it for granted that they knew about Brussel's famous Manneken Pis, or Statue of a Boy Peeing. I'd rather not go into details--just read about it yourself.

And look at some of the little boy's 600 costumes Here.

Anyway...
have a good day. :D

Pink=Perfect

So, I got an email about this camera from Amazon.com today, and can I just say---I'm in love. It's the perfect little point-and-shoot, throw it in my purse or pocket, take to Europe Camera. It's not even released yet, but I am so ready to order it right now.

Look at these Specs:
  • 14-megapixel resolution for stunning prints up to 30 x 40 inches
  • 8x optical zoom; 28 mm wide-angle lens
  • 3-inch LCD with KODAK Color Science Technology
  • 5.8 x 5.8 x 2.3 inches ; 13.6 ounces
  • PINK!!!!
So-now I just wait-- Wait to read the reviews on it, wait for the price to maybe go down, wait because I need to collect about 20,000 pennies to pay for it, and...

wait because I need to convince Derek that a PINK camera is the way to go!

Invited!

One of my absolute favorite Professors at BYU sent me the following email yesterday:

Dear Jennifer,
forgive me if I wrote you about this already, but I wanted to invite students who had the highest grades in History 202 to consider applying to this programme for Summer 2010:
If you are interested, I am available to answer your questions and help you to apply.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Kerry

Absolutely YES I want to go!!! A friend of mine went a few years ago and she said it was beyond amazing.

Well, I saw a few problems with it:
1. I'm married and don't want to be without Derek all summer.
2. Tuition is about $3500 for the summer term (YEOUCH!)
3. I'm married.

Sadly, I sent an apologetic email back to Dr. Kerry, but he fired back almost immediately saying that married students have worked it out! So, Derek and I started talking about it yesterday and I started to fill out the application last night.

Do I want to go? YES!
Do I hope I get in? YES!
Does Derek want me to get it? YES!
Will we actually be able to do it? -------------??

So...here's hoping. I'm going to talk to Dr. Kerry after class today, or sometime this week, and get his input on what he thinks will work. I hope it works out....what an adventure for us!

In other news...it's supposed to Snow Saturday. :D

Wish I had

I really wish I had kept a blog while I was in London.

I've seriously thought about adding things from my journal and my emails home and just...MAKING a blog now. Now that's it's been almost a year and half...

But I think that would be kind of lame.

But it was lame of me not to do it in the first place.

So which is more lame?

Time and Place

So, I have this list of places and things I want to see in my life. Moments I want to capture with my internal lens and treasure them as I do so many other experiences from my life.

For as long as I can remember, my family has watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from the time we get up until Santa shows up on the screen a few hours later. We sit in our pajamas and watch from the comfort of our couch, cereal or toast in our hands, ooing and ahhing at the floats and bands. But you know, one day, I want to be standing on the street, shivering in the New York cold, tasting the beauty of that Thanksgiving moment.

I've been to Washington, D.C., yes. But in my dreams, I see myself walking through an immense crowd, everyone in Red, White and Blue, celebrating the Birth of our Nation. What a beautiful moment that would be, too see fireworks bursting across the National Mall, engulfing the world in celebration! Standing on the steps of the Capitol Building breathing in the moment of joy as our great Nation celebrates the moment when over two-hundred years ago, fifty-six men pledged their Lives, their Fortunes, and their Sacred Honor that we might live free.

Whether or not I am influenced because my Dad served his mission in Italy or not, I do not know. What I do know, is that I long to catch a glimpse of Carnivale in Venice. Not only would I be breathing in the air of a city so ancient and full of life that I would probably clog my lungs, but I would get to see the gay costumes of the age, detailed and spectacular masks, and soak in the moments of a life that is... Venice.

There's no way Fall could be prettier anywhere but New England. There's a magic about the way the leaves coat the ground in musical confetti and the town seems to jump into a cozy sweater of golds, reds, and chocolate browns. I'd love to spend a fall in Massachusetts or Maine, soaking in the moment as leaves topple gently to the ground, just begging to be gathered into a pile.

There isn't really a time of year that I wouldn't LOVE to be in London, but who wouldn't want to mosey through Hyde Park at Christmas? Not too many places decorate the city like London does. From Christmas trees in Trafalgar Square, to Snowflakes hanging from wires on Oxford Street, to ice skating by the Natural History Museum, this city comes alive with lights and gaiety during the Holiday Season. A million moments of breathtaking beauty can be found in London, especially during the celebration of our Savior's birth.

I know I could go on for hours, spouting off brief sketches of the moments I long to tack onto my life. But I suppose the real beauty of life, is that there are so many moments to be lived and so many to treasure. Life brings the opportunity to cherish, love, and learn from those moments, photographs of life that we hold inside us and occasionally share with those we love. I can't wait to spend even more moments in this world and add to my album of memories.
